NGSI: Science & Engineering Practices

Science is far more than knowing facts and core ideas. It is about honing a set of practices that scientists use to understand the world. Developing these skills in tandem with content and crosscutting concepts leads to well-rounded science education.

This course is all about learning to successfully do the work of science and engineering and figuring out how to support students do the same. Explore a variety of intriguing phenomena involving light and ask your own questions. Use models of the Earth-Sun system to explain patterns and anomalies in solar flux data, sunrise locations, and shadows. Work with colleagues to engineer a solution to a real-world problem.

I now really get what it looks like when a learner develops and uses a model for their own learning — not just to prove to me what they know. And, because I experienced what my facilitator did to guide my group to success, I am ready to guide my students to success too.
